Caregiver Support and Consultation
Being a caregiver is difficult and can be particularly stressful during periods of transition or if you are caring for a child, adolescent, or young adult who has behavioral or mental health challenges.
Dr. Phillips collaborates with caregivers to identify current needs and goals, and tailor interventions accordingly. She draws from evidence-based approaches including parent management training (PMT) to improve the caregiver-youth relationship and increase caregivers’ ability to respond effectively in challenging situations. Throughout, Dr. Phillips focuses on parents’ own life experiences, culture, and current context to support caregiver well-being and to align interventions with caregivers’ values and goals.
She also provides a structured intervention for caregivers to learn skills and strategies to effectively advocate for their children’s needs at school.

Family and Couples' Therapy
Healthy, supportive relationships are essential to our well-being, and yet they don’t always come easily. Families and couples can have difficulties with communication, handling conflicts, overcoming a stressful event, or navigating life transitions. These challenges can cause distress and make coping more difficult.
Dr. Phillips takes an active approach to couples and family therapy, starting with collaborative goal-setting and an assessment of current strengths and challenges. Therapy includes a balance of identifying and honoring emotional experiences, while also enhancing skills for communication, validation, collaborative problem-solving, and navigating conflict. Central to both family and couples’ therapy is the importance of enhancing both individual and relational well-being.
